New York’s Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) is currently reviewing proposals for new marquees and retail storefronts on the ground floor of the historic Paramount Building in Times Square. The 33-story structure is located at 1501 Broadway at the corner of 43rd Street and currently contains New York City’s only Hard Rock Cafe, ground-floor retail, and office space on the upper levels.
From Tobin Parnes Design, the proposals include three variations of ground-floor retail area and signage along Broadway. Depending on the tenant secured and feedback from the LPC, the vacant suite can support one big-box tenant or up to three smaller retailers. The existing storefront would be outfitted with new limestone sills and bronze doorways.

Along 43rd Street, the developer has proposed two LED display panels that jut out of the building above the pedestrian sidewalk, in addition to a large, vertical display panel. At this elevation, the door will also be outfitted in a bronze finish and limestone elements replaced, as needed.

Thus far, Community Board Five has expressed no objections to the proposed renovations. The project team has not revealed when work is expected to be complete.
