On Thursday, August 6, the famous Top of the Rock observation deck reopened to the public after temporarily closing in March 2020. Located atop 30 Rockefeller Plaza in Midtown the historic observatory offers 360-degree views of New York City, including some of the best vistas of the Empire State Building and the rising skyline of Billionaires’ Row.
The facility is now open seven days a week, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Pre-purchased tickets will be required in order to reduce the number of visitors at any given time. As part of a limited-time offer, all essential workers will receive free admission for themselves and one guest during Essential Workers Weekend from August 14-16. As an added “thank you” to essential workers, Top of the Rock will offer free scoops of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream throughout Essential Workers Weekend.
“We can’t wait to once again share the magic of Top of the Rock with everyone,” said Rob Speyer, president and CEO of Tishman Speyer. “Nowhere is New York City more inspiring than from the 70th floor, where you feel like you can touch Central Park and the entire city beyond, from Yankee Stadium to the Statue of Liberty, from Flushing Meadows all the way to New Jersey. We are thrilled to welcome back New Yorkers, in a safe and socially distanced way, to rediscover these breathtaking views.”
30 Rockefeller Plaza originally debuted as the RCA building in 1933. The accompanying observation deck was designed to resemble the pool deck of a cruise ship and included Adirondack chairs, potted evergreens, and an outdoor bar. The deck was closed in 1986 for extensive repairs and refurbishing and finally reopened as Top of the Rock on November 1, 2005. Today, Top of the Rock incorporates more than 9,500 square feet of outdoor decks and offers more open-air viewing space than any other observation deck in New York City.

I was contained throughout its views, whether it is in light or skyline; best of all: Thank you.
Twin Towers are back in picture 2
This is really happy news. The Top of the Rock is still the very best observation deck for viewing NYC and beyond.
I like it because you are in the middle of the height from that era (1950’s) Mad Men NYC so the buildings of that era really stand out more than a higher deck. Glad you are back!
Glad to hear it has reopened, will add to my “must see list”
on next visit to NY!
Great news!!! Back home in Manhattan it is the greatest place in the World! I love NYC!
