Beautiful, saved and repurposed historic building. But this was built long before 1950.
Could somebody please tell me what this building formerly was. I lived in the neighborhood when I was very young. I remember it but can’t recall what it was. My grandparents owned the candy store at 97 Kingsland Ave.
Both passed away in 1984.
Thanks!
Wow what has Williamsburg come to. This is what you call affordable housing.
It looks like it was used as a school building, this is from the DOB permit portal:
“PROPOSED CONVERSION OF AN EXISTING 3 STORIES WITH PARTIAL CELLAR SCHOOL BUILDING INTO RESIDENTIAL USE”. Building Identification number is 3070431 if you want to dig deeper.
Why calling these expensive apartments “Lottory building”?
Any rich person can afford these, just list them and they’ll get them easily.
Please remove my email from your list for this so called Lottory is not apply to my so called middle class income.
Thank you
The actual address of this building is 22 Olive Street, not 283 Powers St. It was once Saint Nicholas Commercial High School which used the building from 1914-1977. Unfortunately, building descriptions are written by people who aren’t native to the area and don’t bother conducting proper research for factual accuracy. Instead, they’ll reference Property Shark or NYC Dept. of Buildings info, both of which are highly inaccurate regarding construction dates of structures.
I want an application for a one bedroom please thank you.
The DOB portal lists both as valid address, additionally the website for this is 287powers.com
There are more affordable housing units for people in that middle income than in the lower income bracket. How is this solving the housing inequities in NYC? disgraceful.
This was 1st a church built in 1865? Not sure of date, there is a corner stone. Then elementary and top floor was the high school. I went there for 12 years. It was a neighbor church and a shool.shame they sold it and then turned it into apartments.
You call this affordable housing?
Shame on you
This is a shame of the catholic church ,they let the building go for nothing ,first they destroy what used to be a nice school and now they got a famous lottery $ 2000 for one bedroom and $2500 for 2 bedrooms Lol you can find that and cheaper in Williamsburg without a lottery
Williamsburg is not what it used to be. A studio apartment in Williamsburg is now at least $2500 a month.
I want to be included in the lottery and I also want an application for a one bedroom. Thank you.

This building at 287 Powers Street was originally St Nicholas Church. The Church building on Olive Street was built 155 years ago. 287 Powers was St Nicholas Elementary School and High School. The property is still owned by the Parish.
