Façade installation is continuing on 451 Tenth Avenue, a 45-story residential skyscraper in Hudson Yards. Designed by Handel Architects, developed and constructed by Related Companies, and co-developed with Spitzer Enterprises, the 587-foot-tall structure will also include a restaurant, an Equinox fitness center, and a senior living facility by Atria Senior Living called Coterie Hudson Yards. The market-rate rental units will have access to amenities such as a movie theater, an outdoor swimming pool, and terrace. March and White Design (MAWD) is serving as the interior designer for the senior homes at 451 Tenth Avenue, which rises from a 17,280-square-foot L-shaped plot at the corner of Tenth Avenue and West 35th Street. The property is a short walk to the 7 train at the 34th Street-Hudson Yards subway station, while a little further east are the A, C, E, 1, 2, and 3 and the NJ Transit and Amtrak trains beneath Pennsylvania Station.

Since our last update in December, almost all of the remaining windows have been installed and the terracotta façade panels have risen much higher, especially on the eastern elevation.

The terracotta pieces have a gentle concave shape and vary in width. Flat panels are placed on the perimeter of each floor plate, while some of the edges are lined with a subtle black outline.

The blank westernmost elevation is painted an earth tone color with a dense framework of metal strips that will be eventually covered with the final exterior panels. Meanwhile the pocketed northern corner is seeing more windows put in place and the lower floors are being painted in a dark-colored finish. The northernmost wall is also getting ready for the installation of the envelope to cover up this blank section of the tower.

No information or renderings are available on the interiors or unit count. Related’s website indicates the homes for Coterie Hudson Yards will feature full-size kitchens with custom cabinetry, integrated Miele and other top-of-the-line appliances, nine-foot-tall floor-to-ceiling windows, bathrooms with custom features, and more.

A completion date of October 2022 is posted on the construction board.

  1. Only in Hudson Yards, does a 587 foot tall building seem ‘short’

  2. I like this current terra cotta revival. It’s a great look.
