Weill Cornell Medicine has announced plans for a $260 million student residence hall, set to transform the city’s housing landscape for graduate and medical students. Located at the junction of East 74th Street and York Avenue on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, the 16-story structure is projected to open in 2025.

Designed by Perkins & Will, the 173,000-square-foot hall will house 272 students, offering a mix of 163 studios, seven one-bedroom apartments, and 51 two-bedroom suites, each equipped with a full kitchen. The design emphasizes natural light, comfort, and eco-friendly features.

With an eye on sustainability, the building will aim for LEED Gold certification. Its design includes all-electric heating, ventilation, and air conditioning technology, and efficient water and lighting fixtures.
Students will have access to communal spaces like study nooks, meeting rooms, a fitness center, yoga and music rooms, a student lounge with garden access, a multipurpose court, and a rooftop lounge with a terrace.

Funding for the new development comes from donors including the We’re Changing Medicine campaign co-chairs Jeffrey Feil and Sanford I. Weill, who collectively contributed $122 million toward its construction. Their support is a testament to the program’s commitment to enhancing the medical student experience.
