Foundations Underway At 79 Quay Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Foundation work is underway at 79 Quay Street, the site of an 11-story residential building in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Designed by Strekte Architects and developed by Harry Einhorn of Einhorn Development Group under the 79 Quay Plaza LLC, the 114-foot-tall structure will span 92,390 square feet and yield 140 rental units with an average scope of 701 square feet, as well as 1,287 square feet of commercial space and a cellar level. The property is located at the corner of Quay and West Streets.

Recent photographs show excavation and early stages of foundation work moving along at the 24,500-square-foot parcel. Sections of the core and interior columns have already begun formation, and bundles of rebar protrude across the site in preparation for subsequent pours. Based on the pace of progress, construction could reach street level before the end of summer and top out sometime in the winter.

The updated exterior rendering looks at the southwestern corner of the building, showing the ground floor composed of a colonnade of white pillars, wooden walls with intermediate garden beds, and a canopy topped with shrubbery. The rest of the building’s fenestration features multiple stacks of balconies lined with metal railings, a grid of floor-to-ceiling windows with light-colored mullions, and a gray brick façade with some subtly angled surfaces. The structure culminates in a landscaped roof deck featuring what appears to be a stained glass water tower sculpture.

The following renderings detail the previous iterations of 79 Quay Street, beginning with the more recent scheme from SWA Architecture and the initial design by Cycle Architecture + Planning.

The nearest subway from the property is the G train at the Manhattan and Nassau Avenue stations to the east.

79 Quay Street’s anticipated completion date is slated for spring 2025, as noted on site.

What a shame. The latest design is by far the worst one.

79 Quay Street was created by Cycle Architecture + Planning, this is beautiful occupied: Thanks.

  3. There are a lot of ugly new buildings being built in Brooklyn. Many are just not going to age well.
