Excavation is imminent at 491 Baltic Street, the site of a 14-story residential building in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Designed by Isaac & Stern Architects and developed by Two Kings Real Estate, the 78,000-square-foot structure will yield 79 rental units, with 25 percent designated as affordable housing. The project will also include ground-floor commercial space. INPUT is the interior designer for the property, which is located at the corner of Baltic and Nevins Streets.

A wooden sidewalk fence has been assembled around the corner property, which sits vacant and scattered with debris that will need to be cleared before construction breaks ground.

The rendering in the main photo shows the structure rising uniformly to the eight floor, followed by a series of symmetrical stepped setbacks topped with landscaped terraces on the southern and eastern elevations. The structure will culminate in a landscaped roof deck and a bulkhead. The façade will be composed of light gray and charcoal-hued paneling framing recessed floor-to-ceiling windows and glass doors leading to shallow balconies.

The following renderings preview the amenity spaces, which will include a fitness center and a rooftop terrace with a fire pit and outdoor grilling station. The ground floor will also house utility rooms, a lobby, and package and mail areas. INPUT is serving as the interior designer.

  1. Nice, pro-balcony design.

  2. 🪷 No complaints here!, I love the design actually, it’s well proportioned & I like the way they integrated all of the balcony & terrace space!
    Bravo!👏, a win-win-win for the city!👍

  3. I hope the affordable units are truly affordable, not the so called affordable units that is usually higher rents, this part of Brooklyn desperately needs truly affordable housing

  4. I continue to be disappointed at the incomes for the affordable rents. My income is 32K and very rarely can find an affordable apartment for my yearly income. I’m disabled!

  5. Its a beautiful property but the neighbors across the street
In tje housing building are terrible.its a shame that is not a safe neighbooehood.
