The Spiral’s First Steel Column Dedicated at 66 Hudson Boulevard, in Hudson Yards

Recently developer Tishman Speyer held a dedication ceremony to install the first steel column at the site of 66 Hudson Boulevard, aka The Spiral. A number of people signed the white-colored steel beam before it was raised into place, marking a major step in the construction process for the upcoming supertall office building. The 2.85-million-square-foot structure is located in Hudson Yards and will be designed by Bjarke Ingels of Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). Turner Construction Company is the construction manager while Banker Steel is in charge of fabricating the steel for the 65-story tower.

Excavation Nearing Completion For BIG’s Supertall Spiral at 66 Hudson Boulevard, in Hudson Yards

Thanks to aerial photographs taken by Tectonic, we now have a clear overview of the current progress at 66 Hudson Boulevard, aka The Spiral. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group and developed by Tishman Speyer, the site of the future supertall commercial office building is wrapping up excavation while the two construction cranes assembled in the past couple of weeks are now fully operating.

Tishman Speyer’s BIG Supertall Spiral Gets Ready To Rise Above Ground at 66 Hudson Boulevard, In Hudson Yards District

Taking up one full block bound by West 34rd Street, West 35th Street, Tenth Avenue, and Eleventh Avenue, 66 Hudson Boulevard is currently the eighth-tallest building under construction in YIMBY’s end-of-year countdown. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group, the glass commercial office supertall will literally put a spin on the idea of the outdoor terrace. The 65-story tower is being developed by Tishman Speyer, with foundations already progressing for the 1,031-foot-tall and 2.85 million square foot structure. Excavation In Full Swing for Tishman Speyer’s Spiraling Supertall, Hudson Yards

In June, Tishman Speyer announced that construction would start for their 64-story supertall office tower in the Hudson Yards district, dubbed The Spiral, so named for BIG’s staircase terrace motif. Tishman Speyer’s BIG Supertall Spiral Officially Breaks Ground, Hudson Yards

The prominence of the Hudson Yards district continues to grow, and today, Tishman Speyer has announced the official start of construction for The Spiral. The 1,031-foot tall building will be the fifth supertall added to the area. An event to mark the occasion will be held this afternoon, and will conclude with the planting of a 20-foot Alaskan Cedar tree to serve as Hudson Boulevard & Park’s annual Christmas tree.
