Office development is a rarity across most neighborhoods in New York City, including Chinatown. But sometimes it still happens, and today, YIMBY has a comprehensive look at the updated design for 100 East Broadway, which also sits next to Pike and Division Streets. YIMBY posted an early design for the site back in 2015, but since then, changes have been substantial.
The shell of a gas station at 100 East Broadway has sat empty for six years near the entrance to the Manhattan Bridge in Chinatown. Now a 14-story office and medical building will rise on the block-long corner lot between the bridge, Division Street, Pike Street and East Broadway.
It’s unusual to see thoughtful design for manufacturing space, but that’s exactly what YIMBY has here with this glass and steel structure coming to 50-02 97th Place, which will replace a low-slung warehouse in Corona, Queens.
Last December, renderings of plans for the site at 42 Trinity Place surfaced, with a design by FX Fowle. They came with news that the site could accommodate a 300,000 square foot as-of-right project. But YIMBY has now learned that the site may end up with a building in excess of one million square feet, for which we now have the first preliminary renderings.
