Adams Administration To Replace Decommissioned Jail Barge With Hunts Point Marine Terminal In The Bronx

Mayor Eric Adams, alongside the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and the Department of Correction (DOC), has announced the permanent removal of the Vernon C. Bain Correctional Center barge from the Hunts Point waterfront in the Bronx. In its place, the city plans to develop a new Hunts Point Marine Terminal, which will serve as a logistics hub connecting maritime freight to last-mile delivery systems throughout New York City.

Wells Fargo Hits $780M Financing Milestone for New York City Affordable Housing Projects

The Community Lending and Investment division of Wells Fargo has reached a new milestone, $780.3 million in construction financing for affordable housing projects in New York City and Westchester County. The figure represents five loans, all closed in June 2023, the company’s largest-ever half-cycle allocation.

Bronx Logistics Center In Hunts Point Achieves LEED-Platinum Certification

The Bronx Logistics Center in Hunts Point has officially achieved a LEED v4 Platinum rating, the highest LEED certification granted by the U.S. Green Building Council. Designed by ARCO and developed by Turnbridge Equities and Dune Real Estate Partners, the 1.3-million-square-foot facility is on track to open this year and will be among a small group of LEED Platinum-rated distribution buildings in the country.

Gilbane Development Company, Hudson Companies, and MHANY Management have secured $297 million to complete phase two of The Peninsula, a mixed-use, 100-percent affordable housing complex in Hunts Point, The Bronx. The five-building master plan is being designed by WXY Architecture + Urban Design and Body Lawson Associates, Architects & Planners and will be delivered in three phases.

Phase One of $460M Hunts Point Interstate Improvement Project Now Complete in the South Bronx

Skanska and its joint venture partner ECCO III Enterprises have completed the first phase of a $460 million interstate improvement project in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx. Key project elements include the replacement of four bridges that connect Bruckner Expressway and Bruckner Boulevard over Amtrak and CSX rail lines, improved pedestrian access, and a new community park.

Bain Correctional Center jail barge has been removed from its anchorage off the Hunts Point Peninsula in The Bronx, paving the way for the City’s construction of the Hunts Point Marine Terminal. Developed by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), the terminal will handle shipping containers and facilitate last-mile freight delivery via barges and ferries, reducing truck traffic on local streets.

Team Selected To Dismantle Vernon C. Bain Correctional Center Barge In Hunts Point, The Bronx

The New York City Economic Development Corporation has selected Louisiana Scrap Metal Recycling to remove and dismantle the Vernon C. Bain Correctional Center, a decommissioned five-story jail barge moored off Hunts Point in The Bronx. The company will transport the vessel to its facility in Gibson, Louisiana, where it will be recycled into raw materials for future U.S.-built projects. In addition to handling removal and transport, the company will pay the city $1.5 million.

Freight-Focused EV Charging Depot Announced for Hunts Point, The Bronx

MN8 Energy has been selected to develop New York City’s first freight-focused electric vehicle (EV) charging depot and community welcome center in Hunts Point, The Bronx. The proposal, backed by the NYC Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), includes more than 40 EV chargers and a 12,500-square-foot multi-use facility that will be a part of the broader Hunts Point Food Distribution Center. MN8, a renewable energy-focused developer, will lead the effort in partnership with local workforce organizations.

Renovations Begin On Building C At Hunts Point Cooperative Market in Hunts Point, The Bronx

Construction has broken ground on a renovation project for Building C at the Hunts Point Cooperative Market (HPCM) in Hunts Point, The Bronx. Led by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) in partnership with Councilmember Rafael Salamanca Jr. and the HPCM, the project aims to modernize the aging structure with a new sealed, energy-efficient insulated metal façade. The property is located by the confluence of the East and Bronx Rivers and is bounded by Food Center Drive to the south, east, and west.
