Construction is underway on the $36 million renovation and expansion of the Eastern Parkway Library, a two-story Classical Revival Carnegie library at 1044 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Designed by Allied Works and managed by the New York City Department of Design and Construction for Brooklyn Public Library, the project will expand the 12,250-square-foot branch’s public space by more than 50 percent and add a 13,400-square-foot, three-story wing along Schenectady Avenue. The project will also include a renovated courtyard with outdoor seating, a third-floor reading terrace surrounded by greenery, and a permanent home for the branch’s Adult Learning Center.
Construction progresses on 89 Maspeth Avenue, an 18-story, 100-percent affordable housing development in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Architecture Outfit is the design architect, Magnusson Architecture and Planning, PC is the architect of record, while Hudson Companies and local non-profit St. Nicks Alliance are the developers collaborating with the NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development. The 457,444-square-foot project stands 135 feet tall and will yield 294,297 square feet of residential space with 311 rental units, 161,440 square feet of community facility space, and 1,707 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. Additional elements include a cellar level and a 43-foot-long side yard.

Designed by Anthony Cucich Architect and developed by Elton Lalaj under the 2468 LLC, the structure yields 10 residences. The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) has launched a year-long pilot of the Circular Construction Hub at MADE Bush Terminal, the 20-acre adaptive reuse campus at 13 42nd Street in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The hub will be operated by Our Temenos, a Brooklyn-based certified M/WBE ecological landscaping firm, and will focus on the recovery, sorting, storage, and redistribution of select construction materials. The initiative marks the first award issued under NYCEDC’s “Ideas for Impact” Request for Expressions of Interest, an open solicitation inviting nonprofits, startups, academic institutions, and community organizations to propose partnerships advancing the agency’s economic development priorities.
