Construction is two stories above street level on a 62-story, 426-unit mixed-use tower under development at 242 West 53rd Street, in Midtown. Work is underway on the base of the building, as seen in photos posted to the YIMBY Forums. The latest building permits indicate the project will encompass 542,276 square feet and rise 674 feet to its roof, not including the bulkhead and other mechanical equipment. There will be 16,514 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The residential units above should average 1,024 square feet apiece, although it’s unclear whether they will be condominiums or rentals. Algin Management is the developer and CetraRuddy is behind the architecture. Completion is expected in 2018.
Windows are going in on the 21-story residential project at 221 West 29th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues in Chelsea, near the northern border with the Garment District. Tectonic swung by the site recently and brought back some shots of the progress.

There will be 3,838 square feet of retail space across the ground and cellar levels, followed by condominiums from the second through 12th floors. The apartments should average a spacious 2,930 square feet apiece. Madison Realty Capital is the developer and BKSK Architects is behind the design. HMWhite is the landscape architect and completion is expected in the first half of 2017.
Brooklyn-based property owner Joseph Caputo has filed applications for a four-story, 12,731-square-foot mixed-use commercial building at 19 Maspeth Avenue, located on a vacant, wedged-shape lot bound by Woodpoint Road, Maspeth Avenue, and Conselyea Street in northern Williamsburg. The 46-foot-tall project will feature retail space on the ground floor, office space on the second, and community facility space on the third and fourth floors. The retail and office spaces will total 5,437 square feet while the community facility spaces will total 4,327 square feet. Frank Petruso’s Great Neck, N.Y.-based architecture firm is the architect of record. The Graham Avenue stop on the L train is two blocks away.
An anonymous Bronx-based LLC has filed applications for a four-story, eight-unit residential building at 529 East 187th Street, located on the corner of Bathgate Avenue in the Bronx’s Belmont neighborhood. The new building will measure 6,875 square feet and its residential units should average 688 square feet apiece, indicative of rental apartments. Giuliano Penna’s Bronx-based architecture firm is the architect of record. The 25-foot-wide, 2,500-square-foot property is currently vacant. Metro-North Railroad’s Fordham station and Fordham University are three blocks away.
