Construction Update: 11 North Moore Street

Work is beginning on 11 North Moore Street, which is being developed by VE Equities. The project’s architects are Adjmi and Andreoli, and the building will house nineteen units on nine floors – the definition of ’boutique luxury,’ especially when it comes to the 7,500 square foot penthouse.

Renderings of the development look very promising, and 11 North Moore employs contextuality very well – despite its modern look, the building fits perfectly with its historic Tribeca neighbors, given its small size and fantastic design. The facade will be brushed-limestone, which rests atop a steel-beamed base; obviously the existing neighborhood aesthetic is historic given the majority of buildings were built in the nineteenth century, but the choice of high-quality materials for 11 North Moore’s cladding should ensure it blends rather nicely.

Construction has just gotten underway, with the first elements of the building’s foundation now visible. Despite 11 North Moore’s non-prominence, it will make a great addition to the neighborhood, similar to the also-contextual 137 Franklin Street, which is just a few blocks away.

Though Tribeca is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in New York, many empty lots used for parking continue to exist – the area’s abundance of new projects that actually employ good architects is unparalleled in Manhattan. The eventual result will be a seamless merger of old and new, and that is something everyone in Tribeca should be thrilled with – and also something the rest of Manhattan must  emulate.
