Construction on The Charles at 1355 First Avenue is underway, after a drawn-out saga leading up to financing, and Wired New York forumer EastMillinocket snapped the above photos. Designed by Ismael Leyva, 1355 First Avenue’s developer is Bluerock Real Estate, and the building will rise a total of 31 floors. With only 29 units, residences will certainly be large – the tower’s Upper East Side location isn’t the worst, either, especially with the imminent opening of the Second Avenue Subway.
Renderings of the project are what one would expect for typical new residential construction on the Upper East, and the all-glass tower portion will sit above a small and contextual white base. The Charles also features a minor cantilever, adding random variety to what would otherwise be a simple box – the tower saw several iterations over the course of the proposal process, though none deviated too far from the ‘glass box’ norm.
Completion should occur in 2014, and units are already on-sale, priced between $5 and $15 million.
