YIMBY checked in on the site of the ten-story Hudson Arts Building at 220 Eleventh Avenue in West Chelsea. Designed by Studios Architecture and developed by The Moinian Group, the structure will occupy an entire block between West 25th Street and West 26th Street. JLL is the exclusive leasing agent for the project, which is expected to welcome tenants by 2022.
Our last update noted that construction had kicked off the week of February 9; however, recent photos reveal that excavation has yet to begin on the L-shaped plot. A metal fence surrounds the entire perimeter of the cleared site and a lone excavator sits awaiting the start of activity. Two large-scale renderings on the blank concrete walls of an adjacent building display the depicted 200,000-square-foot office project’s main western elevation and lobby. We hope to see the start of progress sometime this year.
The Hudson Arts Building will feature a prismatic glass curtain wall and will provide column-free floor spans ranging from 17,500 to 25,000 square feet. Ceilings are set to reach over 17 feet high, allowing for more exposure to natural light. A select number of office suites will come with outdoor terraces, some of which will span two stories. An 11,000-square-foot roof deck is planned for the top of the building. Other amenities for office tenants include ground-floor bathing areas with showers, lockers, bicycle storage, and refill stations for bicycle tires. A retail component is also planned, with a tenant yet to be confirmed.
The closest subways are the 7 train at Hudson Yards station and the C and E trains at the corner of West 23rd Street and Eighth Avenue.

I have my suspicions that the reason work has paused on the Hudson Arts Building is because of the pandemic. But there could be another reason.
Regardless of that, I’ve been quite interested in this project, as with most Hudson Yards projects. I am very keen to see work resume on the Hudson Arts Building.
The structure with the large ad for this development is the Launch Box for the 7 train Hudson Yards extension. Hopefully it can be extended south a bit more to 14th St someday and the L train extended a stop west to meet it. That’s a fantasy, but it is straightforwardly set up to be possible at least. With all the development in the area it would be welcome transit relief.
Only in NY would something so reasonable and obvious be considered a fantasy.
Beautiful building ! Bravo to the developer and the architect
