Last Friday the final steel beam of Foster + Partners50 Hudson Yards was lifted into place, marking the topping out of the 1,011-foot supertall skyscraper. The dedication ceremony took place in the large public plaza with attendees including Related Companies‘ chairman and founder Stephen Ross, CEO Jeff Blau, and president Bruce Beal, Jr. The 58-story commercial building, which is also being developed by Oxford Properties, is the final structure in the first phase of Hudson Yards and the largest by volume, yielding 2.9 million square feet.

Photographs seen on Hudson Yards’ Instagram show the signing of the steel beam, along with an attached American flag and an evergreen tree placed atop.

50 Hudson Yards has signed on major tenants including BlackRock and Facebook, whose 1.2-million-square-foot office will be the company’s largest outside of its Menlo Park, California headquarters. Facebook will also occupy an additional 300,000 square feet divided across Kohn Pedersen Fox‘s 30 and 55 Hudson Yards.

50 Hudson Yards is aiming for LEED certification and is expected to finish and open sometime next year.

  1. Great! Completion is eagerly nearing with 50 Hudson Yards and its neighbor, The Spiral. There’s just something about supertalls that is just so intriguing. ☺

  2. I’m more curious why FACEBOOK needs 1.5 million sq. ft. of office space in 3 towers, beyond their headquarters in Menlo Park, CA?!

What the HELL are all those hundreds? of employees doing that justifies so much floor space?
I akways wonder the same thing about banks that need multiple floors… how many employees does it take to COUNT MONEY?! ? What do they do all day on the computer?

    Anyone have answers?

    • Facebook is a data mining and marketing operation. It requires lots of miners and in this new era of social distancing, etc. more floor space for the same number of miners is needed. As to banks, most sublease pace in their headquarters buildings to other tenants. It’s about making $$$, right?

      • And, if the big tech companies get broken up and Facebook is forced to split into two separate social media companies (Facebook and Instagram) and and data mining (advertising ) company, each will have separate offices.

    • “What the HELL are all those hundreds? of employees doing that justifies so much floor space?”

It takes a lot of employees to successfully stifle any dissent from the ruling Oligarchy.

Its development time in construction is close to being successful, which I do not delay to congratulate: Thank you.

  4. Please send me an application for a two-bedroom affordable apartment by email.com

    • It’s a commercial office building, not residential. So, no home rental applications of any kind will be forthcoming. Even for $million units.

  5. I guess FaceBook didn’t go belly up when I closed my account!

  6. That evergreen tree will bestow much good luck when properly burned in the fireplace. I’m sure you are aware – it must be the first thing burned in the fireplace.

  7. Facebook has more employees in New York City than California.

  8. Place send my a application To Luisortiz my num.9173495195
