Construction is complete on The West, a 12-story mixed-use building at 547 West 47th Street in Hell’s Kitchen. Designed by Concrete and StoneCycling and developed by CB Developers, SK Development, and Ironstate Development, the 201,000-square-foot structure yields 219 residential units ranging from studio to two-bedroom layouts as well as a 40,000-square-foot ground-floor Cadillac dealership. Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group is handling sales and marketing, and CM & Associates Construction Management served as the general contractor for the property, which is bound by Eleventh Avenue to the west, West 47th Street to the south, and West 48th Street to the north.

All of the sidewalk scaffolding and fencing has been taken down since our last update in September, revealing the completed look of the showroom level.

The bottom half of the edifice is clad in dark upcycled Dutch-made bricks with numerous running bond patterns surrounding the industrial-inspired rectangular windows. Some sections of the brick façade are subtly pushed back from the lot line, creating long horizontal shadows between each floor. There are 42 different brick shapes and sizes, each individually brushed by hand with a subtly reflective glass glaze before firing.

The same cladding is seen on the shorter annex portion to the east, beyond the main entrance of The West with a sunken landscaped garden leading to the front doors.

The top floors have a more prominent architectural design with a staggered array of cantilevering modular glass-clad boxes, each topped with a private terrace with glass railings. This portion of The West is called The Cloud and has a visually lighter appearance in color and materials.

Residences come in two palettes: a lighter scheme with soft and airy tones with polished metallic details, and a gray palette with warm hues with black accents. Homes come with washer and dryer, central air conditioning, motorized roller shades, natural oak floors, and high ceilings. Those in The Cloud, from floors eight through 12, have primary bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms lined with Calacatta marble countertops, ceramic wall tiles, Rohl nickel fixtures, terrazzo flooring, dressing rooms, and private terraces for most units. Kitchens come with Miele and Bosch appliances, honed Calacatta marble countertops and backsplashes, and Rohl nickel fixtures.

Units on floors one through seven have en-suite bathrooms with gray terrazzo flooring, pale gray ceramic wall tiles, a honed gray marble countertop on a custom matte black vanity, and matte black fixtures by Rohl. Kitchens have Calacatta marble countertops and backsplashes with custom cabinetry and slimline Bosch and Miele appliances.

The West Residence Club features over 30,000 square feet of amenity space with a double-height 24-hour attended lobby and concierge desk, a library with a fireplace, a community mailroom with a package wrapping station, a chef’s kitchen with a private dining room, a co-working space and conference room, a double-height gym by The Wright Fit with an outdoor training deck, a pet spa and dog run, an outdoor rooftop deck with a swimming pool and cabanas available for purchase, multiple outdoor kitchens and dining areas with BBQ grills, a bike repair room, storage for every condominium, and two fully furnished hotel suites residents can reserve for their visitors.

Lighter appearance in color and materials, with staggered modular glass-clad boxes. Looking beautiful glass on two sections, as well as an opening that allows access to a building: Thanks to Michael Young.

  2. I think this actually works. Yes, the floating cube trend is not the greatest thing, but it works for me on The West. The very elegant industrial base really compliments the cubic half of the building. It’s just somehow cohesive. I like it.

  3. I just love the look of it
