540 Hudson Street’s Brick Façade Nears Completion in Greenwich Village, Manhattan

Façade work is nearing completion on 540 Hudson Street, a seven-story residential building in Greenwich Village. Designed by Morris Adjmi Architects and developed by Aurora Capital Associates and William Gottlieb Real Estate, the 63-foot-tall structure will yield 19 units spread across 48,535 square feet and 6,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor and cellar. Titanium Construction Services is the general contractor for the property, which is also addressed as 111 Charles Street and is located at the corner of Hudson and Charles Streets.

Recent photos show the progress since our last update in November 2021, when the reinforced concrete superstructure had risen around the halfway mark. Since then, significant work has occurred, with the wavy red brick façade largely completed behind scaffolding and black netting. Belden Tristate Building Materials supplied the hand laid brick. The building features a window grid with subtly protruding frames, and the parapet is capped with a corbeled cornice. The ground floor is completely obscured behind scaffolding, but will feature floor-to-ceiling glass for the retail frontage.

Amenities will be housed on the second floor connecting to an outdoor terrace. One-bedroom apartments will measure 670 square feet, two-bedrooms will average 1,200 square feet, and the three-bedroom penthouse is expected to span 1,820 square feet on the top floor. Nearby the site is the 1 train at the Christopher Street station along Seventh Avenue and the Christopher Street PATH Station.

540 Hudson Street is slated for completion next spring.

I took a sneak peek on the latest building that you reported on, brick facade and wavy with its structure helps to show the delicacy. I have not left the construction site, cause I’m addicted to wavy lines and beautiful color of bricks: Thanks to Michael Young.

    Gorgeous!

  3. Nicely done… scaled to the neighborhood, appropriate building materials and some updated design, all coordinated! Even the retail space looks like it will be pedestrian friendly.

If only more architects could design projects with these things in mind?!

  4. Now THIS is how you design a building! Works so well with the neighborhood and thank for its not a cheap glass box

  5. This is a really great design. It’s contextual with the neighborhood and it’s beautiful on its own.
