The New York Landmark Preservation Commission will review a proposal for new signage at 459 West Broadway, a six-story residential building in Soho‘s Cast Iron Historic District in Manhattan on Tuesday, February 27. The proposal, which was arranged by JPD Preservation Consulting and Overall Murals, is to replace the existing signage painted on the building’s façade and issue ten-year permits for a new painted sign approximately the same size and in the same location.
The existing signage features a Watches of Switzerland advertisement. The proposal outlines several potential signage examples, but it appears that a final advertisement and brand have not been chosen at this time. Notably, the proposal specifically requests for “no regulation of content within the designated space.”

If approved, the new signage would take up 448 square feet, 10.12 percent of the total area of the exposed lot line wall. The proposal points out other buildings on Broadway with similar signage, suggesting that the new signage at 459 Broadway would be in alignment with that of the surrounding area.
The closest subways from 459 West Broadway are the A, C, and E trains at the Spring Street station and the B, D, F, M, and 6 trains at the Broadway-Lafayette Street/Bleecker Street station.
