Construction is complete on The Alchemy, a six-story residential building at 50-07 5th Street in the Hunters Point section of Long Island City, Queens. Developed by BK Developers Inc. under the 5007-5009 Development LLC, the structure yields 17 condominium units in one- to two-bedroom layouts, including two ground-floor duplexes. The property is located on an interior plot between 50th and 51st Avenues. Alexander Pereira of Modern Spaces is head sales and marketing for the project.

A significant amount of work transpired since our last update in September 2022, when the steel-framed superstructure had recently topped out and crews were in the process of framing the walls with metal studs behind scaffolding and black netting. Recent photos show the completed look of the exterior, which is composed of dark gray brick surrounding a grid of floor-to-ceiling windows with black mullions and stacks of balconies lined with glass railings on the main western elevation. The northern and southern sides are finished in gray EIFS paneling matching the color of the brick. The ground floor features two garage entrances, and the main residential doors are situated at the southwestern corner of the building.

All apartments offer either private balconies or rooftop terraces, 10-foot-high ceilings, seven-inch-wide plank oak flooring, recessed lighting, and Nest smart thermostats. Kitchens have Italian-imported cabinetry and gas Bosch or Blomberg ranges. The bathrooms are fitted out with imported vanities, imported Spanish and Italian tiling, Grohe shower systems, Toto fixtures, and radiant heated flooring. Every home also has washers and dryers.

The pet-friendly building includes residential amenities such as on-site parking, a bike storage room, a lounge, residential storage, and a rooftop terrace with a barbecue area. There is also a fully-equipped fitness center, and the building is equipped with a Butterfly MX entry system and fingerprint smart locks.

The nearest subway from the Alchemy is the 7 train at the Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue station, which provides a connection to the G, E, and M trains at the Court Square and Court Square-23rd Street stations. Further east are the N and W trains at Queensboro Plaza.

  1. “Alchemy” means transforming base metals into gold. That sure didn’t happen here.

  2. Does it really need two garage entrances? Not only is that an ugly use of ground floor space, it also takes away from the ever decreasing street parking. (Yes, I know, boo-hoo, not a popular concern around here.)

Construction may not be complete yet, what makes me think like that? Thanks.
