LeFrak recently completed the largest solar panel installation in New Jersey on 180 River Drive, a high-rise residential building located in Jersey City. The property, named the Beach, yields 336 units and completed construction in 2020. It now features a 180kW rooftop solar system with 450 panels, which is expected to offset 13 percent of the building’s carbon emissions, equivalent to removing 37 gasoline-powered cars from the road each year.
The two-tower development is part of Newport, a master-planned community created by LeFrak and Simon in the 1980s. When the property opened to residents in 2021, it leased 75 percent of its units within ten weeks.
Residents of The Beach have access to a range of amenities, including a coworking lounge, a fitness center, a game room, and a waterfront courtyard with an outdoor pool.
The new solar system helps power elevators, lighting, and HVAC systems in the building’s lobby. Sunkeeper Solar, a Brooklyn-based company, installed the system.
Transit nearby includes the Newport Station, which is served by a number of PATH trains.
