Residential move-ins have begun at 420 Carroll, a recently completed development located in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Designed by FXCollaborative and developed by The Domain Companies in collaboration with Cantor Fitzgerald, Silverstein Properties, and VOREA Group, the project consists of two interconnected towers standing 16 and 21 stories. The development yields 360 residential units, 90 of which have been designated as affordable housing for households earning between 40 and 100 percent of the area median income. The project is on track to receive either LEED Gold or Platinum certification.

420 Carroll features a range of amenities including “The Shop,” a 14,000-square-foot coworking and art studio space, outdoor green spaces, a fitness center, a children’s playroom, and onsite bike storage. The towers are connected by a subterranean tunnel, allowing residents access to shared spaces across both buildings without needing to go outside.

Transit nearby the project includes the Union Street subway station, served by the R train.
“As the first project to come out of the 2021 Rezoning, 420 Carroll is a project that represents a new era of growth in Gowanus, and finally reaching the milestone of residential move-ins is not only a meaningful moment for us, but for the entire neighborhood and community,” said Matt Schwartz, co-CEO of the Domain Companies.

Unfortunately, the Carroll Street Bridge remains closed, as it has been for 4 years now. Despite renders of 420 Carroll suggesting otherwise, there is no clear timeline when it will reopened to the public.
Neil , I have heard some reports mention the Carroll Street bridge reopening Winter 2025/2026. Do you know if this is still accurate?
The latest is repairs to the Eastern portion of the bridge will start in April 2025 and finish (??) in nine months.
This drives me nuts, and the local reps like Shahana Hanif don’t do anything about it. DOT is waiting until the cleanup work is done so they don’t have to bother with the openings/closings. This despite repeatedly promising the community that the bridge crossings would remain open during the cleanup.
