CityPickle has unveiled plans for a revitalization of Anchorage Plaza beneath the Brooklyn Bridge in Dumbo, Brooklyn. The 60,000-square-foot site, comprising the Old Fulton Street Yard, Washington Old Street Yard, and Ash Alley, will be transformed into “CityPickle Brooklyn Bridge,” featuring 11 pickleball courts, green spaces, food trucks, seating, shade structures, bike racks, and community programming. The project is spearheaded by CityPickle, selected by NYC Parks as the top-rated proposer in a 2024 Request for Proposals process.

CityPickle Brooklyn Bridge will operate under a license agreement with NYC Parks for an initial three-year term, with the option for three one-year extensions. The project will open once permitting and construction are finalized. This will mark the first public use of the space in more than 15 years, reclaiming the area for recreation and public engagement. In addition to pickleball courts, the plaza will host activities such as chess and arts programming, aiming to foster community interaction and wellness.

The seasonal pickleball courts will operate during warmer months, while year-round amenities will include pedestrian walkways, seating, food trucks, and recreational games. CityPickle has previously partnered with Wollman Park Partners in Central Park, drawing more than 130,000 players to its seasonal courts.

I’m sure the residents of the upscale apartment buildings across the street will enjoy the sound, added to the constant sound of traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge.

  2. Placeholder..

A placeholder, to be sure, but certainly better than what’s there now (storage yard? Parking lot?).

    • Yes, and I’ve been reading how pickleball is such a healthy pursuit, especially for us ‘older’ folks, so why not..

  4. This is great for local restaurants. The area attacking lots of tourists. It is an interesting area of old world style that has been upgraded so everyone can enjoy the area. Well landscaped and this is an added attraction. A place not too effected by modern tall buildings. Plenty of historical buildings with a history back into the Colonial Era. Really like the idea of utilizing the space for everyone to enjoy.
