Excavation is underway at 433-437 Flushing Avenue, the site of a seven-story mixed-use building in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Designed by SpectorArchitects and developed by Congregation Yetev Lev D’Satmar under the Satmar Flushing LLC, the 28,662-square-foot structure will yield 34 units, according to permits filed in 2011. The project will also include nearly 14,000 square feet of community facility space on the ground floor and cellar level, as well as enclosed parking for ten vehicles. The property is located between Franklin and Bedford Avenues.

The following photos show retaining walls assembled around the perimeter of the lot as crews work to unearth the site below street level.

The rendering in the main photo shows the structure rising from double-height podium clad in expansive glass with white columns that flare outward at their tops. A cornice atop the base is depicted adorned with Hebrew signage. The residential levels above the third-story setback will be clad in gray and white brick with balconies on the outer volumes of floors four through six. A pair of stepped setbacks are positioned on the upper levels of the eastern and western ends, and the structure culminates in a flat parapet with a tall bulkhead.

Congregation Yetev Lev D’Satmar acquired the property from Yeshiva Beis Leivy for $9.9 million in the summer of 2023.

The nearest subway from the site is the G train at the Flushing Avenue station to the east along Marcy Avenue.

The construction board lists a May 1, 2025 completion date for 433-437 Flushing Avenue. Given the state of progress, sometime in the middle of 2026 is likely.

    Very basic.

  2. This neighborhood gives Balkan/Turkish vibes.

  3. Oof.

    Schlock.

  4. Hideous. But then again, all of the surrounding buildings look like they’re hideous as well.

It reminds me of a Federal Reserve building, but with balconies. It’s basic housing and my guess is that’s in great demand so… welcome.

  6. I see some dob violations
