430 West Broadway Completes Construction in Soho, Manhattan

Construction is finished on 430 West Broadway, a seven-story commercial building in the Soho Cast Iron District. Designed by Morris Adjmi Architects and developed by New Soho Associates, the 40,000-square-foot project was approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission in early 2019 and yields office space and both ground-floor retail and community facility spaces. The property is located between Prince and Spring Streets.

The entire exterior was completed since our last update in early September 2023, when the reinforced concrete superstructure stood topped out and bare behind a veil of scaffolding and netting, and the hoist was still attached to the main eastern elevation. This has all since been removed, revealing the finished look of the rust-colored metal façade and recessed floor-to-ceiling windows, a design nod to the neighborhood’s cast iron past. The ground floor features zinc panels framing its storefront windows, and a metal railing lines the seventh floor setback above a thick cornice.

The seventh floor is set back from the street and is clad in a gray envelope, as depicted in the diagram below, which compares the former 2018 iteration to the current design.

The ground level features 18-foot-high ceilings and up to 6,000 square feet of retail space, while the cellar level has ceiling heights of 11.5 feet and 4,350 square feet. Level two yields 6,500 square feet of office space, while levels three through seven each yield 7,400 square feet of office space. Two sets of egress staircases flank two elevators, which are all situated on the southern lot line wall.

Office amenities include a dedicated lobby and entrance, a rooftop lounge with a kitchen, and a landscaped terrace on level seven.

  1. The city didn’t waste any time putting those garbage collecting, messy, take up valuable parking spaces, bikes.

  2. This looks great. Love it.

  3. This looks really nice. The color and scale fit beautifully into the surrounding neighborhood and allow the modern design to work.

The redesign is a definite improvement, although I wish the top cornice projected out just a bit more. A very good, well-detailed design perfectly fitting into the historic neighborhood.

Could it be more dull and soulless? Looks like someone dumped a bunch I I-beams and windows on an empty lot. Could be worse. Could be a Gene Kaufman debacle in brick. (I usually like Adjmi, but this has no personality whatsoever.)

  6. Nice. Simple, warm color. respects the neighborhood

  7. Live very near by! Building is not completed! Second floor outside trim not done. Tree in front needs to be replaced. Please reexamine the outside of the building.

  8. So they just reused and modified the 290 West design. A bit lazy, but the client probably wanted it.

The 2 oak trees have been killed by the construction teams. They need to be replaced, possibly in large planters so dogs don’t use the area as their personal toilets. I live directly across the street at 431. Once finished the building will be a positive addition to the neighborhood. Proper landscaping should not be overlooked.
