56 Leonard Street is moving upwards, though progress is taking some time—since the last update, the tower has only risen one floor. Lower levels are typically the most complicated, but 56 Leonard has the additional burden of variations between each floor, which is sure to lengthen the construction process. Completion of the Herzog & de Meuron-designed building is currently slated for 2015.
150 Greenwich is also coming along, with only one remaining corner of exposed superstructure. The high-quality glass has resulted in the facade’s stark uniformity, and it reflects perfectly even in cloudy weather, almost camouflaging the building into the sky. Though shorter than its sibling One World Trade Center, 150 Greenwich proves that height is certainly not everything, and one beautiful element to Maki’s simplicity is that it had no extraneous elements that could be value-engineered.
On that note, One World Trade Center’s final antenna piece is slated for installation today, though clouds and wind could once again delay the topping-out ceremony. There’s been no word on a new schedule, but once the final piece is put into place, YIMBY will have new photos.
