New Renderings Reveal ‘The Set’ at 451 Tenth Avenue in Hudson Yards

New renderings from Handel Architects reveal The Set, a 587-foot-tall residential skyscraper under construction at 451 Tenth Avenue in Hudson Yards. Developed by Related Companies, the 45-story structure is rising from a 17,280-square-foot L-shaped lot at the corner of Tenth Avenue and West 35th Street, directly to the north of Bjarke Ingels‘ 66 Hudson Boulevard, aka The Spiral. Though it’s unclear which final form the building will take in terms of color palette, the renderings are likely a good indication of what’s to come for the reinforced concrete edifice that’s already several floors above street level.

The external architectural appearance is inspired by Gothic cathedrals and emphasizes the idea of verticality by utilizing a motif of elegantly curved terracotta panels between the floor-to-ceiling windows. Renderings show these façade elements in both light gray and bronze options. This minor detail in the overall assembly aims to distinguish the structure from its neighbors, with an earth-toned palette contrasting with the modern glass forms of skyscrapers like Kohn Pedersen Fox’s 30 Hudson Yards.

The development will include a restaurant, an Equinox fitness center, a senior living facility, and market-rate rental units with amenities including a movie theater and an outdoor swimming pool and terrace.

No official completion date has been announced for 451 Tenth Avenue, but sometime in 2022 is likely.

Dear god, some actual texture, and hopefully some color too. This neighborhood could use it…

  2. What’s that tall skinny building behind 451 10th in the stacking plan?

  3. Weird that they would build another Equinox there. There’s one just a couple blocks away.

    • won’t be a full EQX most likely. A small Equinox branded gym amenity for building residents only, as in other Related buildings.

  4. Oh yes! We can now finally see how 451 Tenth Avenue could look like–and I love it. I think it’ll look great with the glass skyscrapers of Hudson Yards and Manhattan West. I just love the interesting texture and beauty of the building, unlike the other skyscrapers of the area. And for my opinion on the color palettes, I think I like the light palette the best. But, I don’t mind the darker palette either. Overall, 451 Tenth Avenue looks to become a pretty nice skyscraper, at least for me. ?

  5. My vote is for the lighter palette. It will contextually compliment 475 10th Ave, a historic 1912 loft building clad in white terra-cotta tiling, just one block north of the site. “Built in 1912, 475 10th avenue was the original home of the Hill Publishing Co., which later merged with McGraw Publishing and became the first McGraw-Hill Building”

  6. Dark please. Finally some color in HY.

Also these names…??? “The Set” ?? Of all the names, this is what they come up with??

  7. This is a handsome building in either version but I don’t see any connection to gothic cathedrals.

  8. Most important is the way the tower hits the pavement. This looks good, I hope.
Living in NYC is more about walking the sidewalks than a simple blog feed visual.

  9. Developed by Related? I thought this and the office tower behind it on the same block are being developed by Elliot Spitzer and a partner. Did Related come on as an additional partner or buy them out?
