50 West 66th Street Gains Prominence Above Manhattan’s Upper West Side

Construction continues to rise on 50 West 66th Street, a 69-story residential skyscraper on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Designed by Snøhetta with SLCE Architects as the executive architect and developed by Extell and Tennor Holding, the 775-foot-tall structure will yield 127 condominium units and stand as the tallest building on the Upper West Side. Lendlease is the general contractor for the project, which is located on an interior lot between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West with frontage on both West 65th and West 66th Streets.

Crews had reached the top of the multi-story podium at the time of our last update in late March, and work was just shifting to the construction of the main tower. Since then, about ten floors have been built and the signature chamfered design is now clearly visible on the northwest and southeast corners of the reinforced concrete superstructure. Meanwhile, the façade of white paneling and tall rectangular windows with bronze frames has nearly enclosed the entire podium up to the angular amenity floors, which will include communal terrace space. It’s likely that the tower’s glass curtain wall will soon begin installation as the building continues to rise.

Amenities at 50 West 66th Street will include an indoor swimming pool, a full-sized basketball court, a squash court, and an indoor bowling alley. The 20th floor will house a residential lounge, a business center, a spa, and a landscaped terrace with fire pits.

50 West 66th Street is anticipated to be finished by late 2024 to early 2025.

    • Seriously, of all things to point out in the entire article, that’s where your attention gets drawn to? Not even talking about the building’s construction, the photographs, or anything architecturally related??

  2. Immigrants, and families in need of low income and middle income apartments are camping out in hopes that the Extell will follow the need to be charitable . Oh yeah that’s only for show for religious extremists. Remember how he had separate entrances for a building with few electric outlets for a different building that had low income and middle income tenants approved.

    • Please share the details regarding how many immigrants you’ve taken in and are now supporting with housing, clothing, meals and healthcare.

    Tenants who were chosen to live in one of the 55 low-income units in Extell’s ritzy 33-story building recently started trickling in through the poor door — and many are disturbed by the glaring disparities.

    “The thing I don’t like most is we don’t have the same amenities,” said Christina Figueras, 27, a single mother of two.

    • Like those amenities don’t cost anything? While we do not live in a perfect world, maybe the people
      lucky enough to obtain apartments in such a great building in such a great neighborhood should have the grace to focus on their good fortune?

      RP, I consider myself left of center politically, but it’s your kind kind of griping that sustains the right’s view that to be liberal is to be impractical. Think about that, especially now.

      • Agree. What do they say about “beggers being choosy”? What a blessing to live in a luxury tower located in the UWS Manhattan. I certainly can’t aford it and my wife and I both have advanced degrees and great paying jobs. But UWS will forever be out of our reach.

        So based on your comments RP, please confirm you’re personally going to step up and provide the funds for my family to move to the UWS… And not just anywhere, I want a three bedroom with unobstructed views of Central Park and amenities that include sauna and lap pool. I also demand membership at North Hills CC.

    Enclosed spaces are prominent as I see around the vertical continues, the structure is a kind of towering skyscrapers. This big city in America never dropped closeness between a very well design and developed, so attractive approved of chamfered angle until its completion inauguration day: Thanks to Michael Young.
