Amid the large-scale projects rising along the Williamsburg, Brooklyn waterfront are a host of smaller residential developments continuously springing up across the vibrant neighborhood. YIMBY captured the progress on six such buildings, all under ten stories, beginning with sites close to the East River and moving inland.
483, 485, 487 Wythe Avenue
Situated at the northeastern corner of Wythe Avenue and South 11th Street are three conjoined structures at 483, 485, and 487 Wythe Avenue. All three steel-framed buildings are designed by Jay Architect & Engineering DPC and are being constructed on what was once a surface-level parking lot.
Furthest ahead is 483 Wythe Avenue, which stands topped at four stories and 45 feet tall. The building will span 5,414 square feet and yield two units. The elevation rendering posted on the info board shows a brick-clad façade and a symmetrical grid of rectangular windows with several balconies on levels two and four. A bulkhead rises above the flat roof along the southern party wall. A garage door is shown at the center of the ground level and is flanked by two sets of front doors for each of the residential units. 483 Wythe Avenue has a completion date of summer 2026, as noted on site.
485 Wythe Avenue will rise four stories to the immediate south and will also yield two units. The below elevation rendering shows an asymmetrical layout of rectangular windows and balconies on levels two and four, while the two front doors are placed directly next to each other. The project also has a bulkhead poking above the flat roof along the northern party wall. 485 Wythe Avenue has an anticipated completion date of December 2025, but YIMBY expects work to conclude sometime next year.
At the corner is 487 Wythe Avenue, a four-story, two-unit building. The below elevation rendering shows a similar design with balconies on levels two and three, as well as at least one more on the fourth story facing South 11th Street. A December 2025 anticipated completion date is also listed on the info board, but will likely take until sometime next year as well.
79 South 2nd Street
Construction recently finished on 79 South 2nd Street, a five-story residential building on a narrow interior lot between Wythe Avenue and Berry Street. Designed by AM/PM Design & Consulting, the structure yields three condominium units and features a white brick-clad façade and grid of subtly recessed windows encased by a dark metal framework and mullions. A setback at the fifth floor is topped with a private terrace. A raised planter lines the ground floor next to the front entrance.
291 Grand Street
Renovation work is progressing on 291 Grand Street, a three-story residential building on an interior lot between Roebling and Havenmeyer Streets. The project involves a façade alteration and full interior renovation, and will yield an undisclosed number of units. New metal frame studs have been installed along the southern elevation, while tall sidewalk scaffolding and wooden fencing obscure the ground level. The new façade and windows have yet to begin installation. No renderings or anticipated completion date have been revealed.
The below Google Street View image from September 2024 shows the former conditions of the building before work commenced.
69 Hope Street
Work is finishing up on 69 Hope Street, a seven-story residential building by the corner of Hope Street and Marcy Avenue. Designed by Studio Esnal and developed by High Ridge Management, the structure will yield 18 rental units in one- to two-bedroom layouts.
The exterior is composed primarily above white brick framing a grid of floor-to-ceiling windows and glass doors for balconies on the main southern elevation. A setback on the seventh floor is lined with a metal railing for an expansive terrace. The western face is mostly clad in white EIFS with columns of windows surrounded by black paneling, while the opposite eastern elevation is completely blank. The ground floor features dark brown panels.
All six sites are located in close proximity to the L train at the Bedford Avenue station, as well as the J, M, and Z trains at the elevated Marcy Avenue station.

Certainly ‘encyclopedic’ photo coverage today by Michael Young of Williamsburg projects, big and small .. I wonder , as I sit writing this in my ancient 5 story Hell’s Kitchen tenament walk up, if these attractive ‘new’ 3 to 5 floor Williamsburg buildings, will have elevators installed?
Expressing gratitude to the photographer! Thank you for your hard work! All the construction teams too….everything looks beautiful!
