LPC to Review Latest Design for 11 Hubert Street Mega-Mansion in Tribeca, Manhattan

The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) is set to review the latest design for a sprawling single-family residential building at 11 Hubert Street in Manhattan’s Tribeca West Historic District. Designed by SPAN Architecture, the project will repurpose the existing three-story commercial structure on site into a private residence, and is the latest iteration in a string of “mega-mansion” proposals for the property, which is located at the southwest corner of Hubert and Collister Streets.

Development Team, Renderings Revealed for Penn Station Overhaul in Midtown, Manhattan

The long-gestating plan to revitalize Penn Station has taken a significant step forward with the selection of a development team for the Midtown, Manhattan transit hub. Penn Transformation Partners, a joint venture between Halmar and Skanska, will lead the project, which will involve extensive exterior and interior revisions to the facility while preserving and re-cladding Madison Square Garden.

LPC Approves Combination, Expansion of 79-81 Jane Street Townhouses in Manhattan’s West Village

The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission has approved plans to combine and expand two three-story townhouses at 79-81 Jane Street in Manhattan’s West Village. Designed by Allen & Killcoyne Architects with JPD Preservation Consulting, the project involves the combination of the two buildings into a unified structure, as well as alterations to the front areaways and rear façade, excavation of the cellar and rear yard, and the construction of a one-story rooftop bulkhead. The property is located between Washington and Greenwich Streets.

The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission on Tuesday voted to calendar the Breuer Building for consideration as both an individual and interior landmark, casting uncertainty on renovation plans for the Whitney Museum’s former home at 945 Madison Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The motion was spurred by last month’s announcement that auction house Sotheby’s had hired architects Herzog & de Meuron to reimagine the structure for its new global headquarters.

Landmark ‘City of Yes’ Housing Creation Plan Approved with $5 Billion Push

A City Council subcommittee on Thursday approved Mayor Eric Adams’ plan to build 80,000 new homes over the next 15 years, lowering the cost of rent for New Yorkers amid one of the worst housing crises in city history. Dubbed “City of Yes for Housing Opportunity,” the rezoning proposal aims to spur the creation of affordable housing in all five boroughs, along with upgrades to critical infrastructure. The approval by the City Council Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises and Committee on Land Use was secured following a $5 billion pledge from the city and state.

Edge NYC to Debut ‘City Climb’ Aerial Experience at 30 Hudson Yards

Edge NYC at 30 Hudson Yards is set to open City Climb, a new attraction for the supertall observatory in Hudson Yards. Billed as the “highest external building climb in the world,” the experience will invite guests to ascend a set of stairs along the precipice of the Kohn Pederson Fox-designed skyscraper’s slanting crown more than 1,200 feet above street level, and even lean out from a platform at the tip of the building.

50-Story Tower Revealed in Preliminary Renderings for 30-25 Queens Boulevard, in Long Island City

A 50-story skyscraper could potentially rise from an assemblage of three undeveloped lots in the heart of Long Island City, Queens. The combined 25,177-square-foot parcel is known as QPX and consists of 30-25 Queens Boulevard, 29-00 Northern Boulevard, and 29-14 Queens Plaza East. The property is located adjacent to Sunnyside Yards and is sandwiched between two new high-rise developments.

200 Amsterdam Ruling Threatens ‘Havoc’ to New York City Development

Developers of the Upper West Side’s tallest building, 200 Amsterdam Avenue, were dealt an unprecedented blow last week when a State Supreme Court Judge ruled that 20 or more floors may have to be lopped from the residential skyscraper. Developers SJP Properties and Mitsui Fudosan America are in the process of appealing the decision, which is the latest in a string of community-led attacks on development throughout the city.
