Now the firm’s plan to rezone those properties is inching through the public review process, and YIMBY has a glimpse of what the project will look like, thanks to documents filed with the Department of City Planning.
New development rarely happens in Riverdale, a northwestern Bronx neighborhood where low-density zoning has protected wealthy areas full of single-family homes. But new, mid-rise buildings are allowed on several blocks along the Henry Hudson Parkway. A developer hopes to build on one such project at 3641 Johnson Avenue.
Brownsville, in eastern Brooklyn, is one of the few places in the five boroughs where the city still owns plenty of vacant lots. The city has filed plans for an eight-story, 71-unit development at 214 Hegeman Avenue, at the southern edge of Brownsville near Canarsie.
Last week was busy at the Bronx Department of Buildings, with filings for a police station in Melrose and a number of mid-sized affordable housing projects throughout the borough. One non-profit filed applications for an eight-story senior housing development at 909 Beck Street in Longwood, in the southeastern Bronx.
