JPMorgan Chase’s 270 Park Avenue Supertall Continues Climb Over Midtown East, Manhattan

Construction continues to rise on 270 Park Avenue, JPMorgan Chase‘s 70-story supertall headquarters in Midtown East. Designed by Norman Foster of Foster + Partners and developed by Tishman Speyer, the 1,388-foot-tall skyscraper will yield 2.5 million square feet of office space and set the record for the tallest building in New York to be powered by hydroelectric energy. Banker Steel is in charge of steel fabrication and NYC Constructors is the general contractor for the property, which spans a full block bound by East 48th Street to the north, East 47th Street to the south, Park Avenue to the east, and Madison Avenue to the west.It is expected to have a capacity to hold 15,000 employees.

Demolition work is ramping up for PENN 15, a 56-story, 1,200-foot commercial supertall at 15 Penn Plaza in MidtownManhattan. Designed by Foster + Partners and developed by Vornado Realty Trust, the 2.7 million-square-foot tower will replace the aging Hotel Pennsylvania and stand as the tallest component in the 7.4 million-square-foot Penn District master plan. 401 Hotel Reit is the owner and Northstar Contracting Group is the demolition contractor for the property, which is bound by Seventh Avenue to the west, West 32nd Street to the south, and West 33rd Street to the north.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) is now reviewing proposals to construct a single-story penthouse at 6-16 West 77th Street in Manhattan’s Central Park West Historic District on the Upper West Side. Designed by Foster + Partners for billionaire investor Bill Ackman and his family, the revised proposals arrive in response to the LPC’s request for reduced visibility and a façade that is more harmonious with the existing building enclosure.
