Gene Kaufman-Designed Skyscraper at 265 Broadway Appears Stalled in Lower Manhattan

A 510-foot-tall mixed-use tower designed by Gene Kaufman Architect was proposed for 265-267 Broadway a few years ago, and recently YIMBY checked in for an update on progress, or lack thereof. The Roe Corporation is the developer for the 144,244 square foot site, which is expected to rise a decent height above the surrounding Lower Manhattan skyline once complete. However, with no demolition yet evident, it appears this development may be as dead as a Thanksgiving turkey.

Gene Kaufman’s First Tribeca Skyscraper at 267 Broadway Gets Major Design Revamp

Back in August, YIMBY reported on the first renderings for a new tower coming to 267 Broadway, in Tribeca. Plans call for the Gene Kaufman-designed building to stand a total height of 510 feet, and after substantial design revisions, we have another update revealing substantial changes since 2017.

Back in January of 2017, YIMBY reported on new job applications for a site spanning 265-267 Broadway, in Tribeca. Gene Kaufman is designing the tower, and now we have the first look at plans for the project, which will yield a glassy skyscraper peaking 510 feet above the streets below.

An over century-old little building on the Upper West Side will officially bite the dust. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the demolition of the three-story building at 466-468 Columbus Avenue, and the construction of a new mixed-use building in its place.

Demolitions aren’t particularly frequent in historic districts, but it looks like another one is going to happen. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission heard a proposal to demolish the current building at 466-468 Columbus Avenue, on the Upper West Side, and replace it with a mixed-use building. While the commissioners weren’t ready to approve the proposal, the demolition aspect didn’t seem to be a stumbling block.

Yesterday was a busy day for building permits on the Upper West Side, where very little new construction happens thanks to a combination of landmarking and restrictive zoning. AvalonBay Communities filed plans for a 33-story tower at the site of the former American Bible Society Headquarters near Columbus Circle, and a small developer submitted applications for an eight-story condo building at 466 Columbus Avenue, between West 82nd and 83rd Streets.
