The website for Raymond Chan architects has the below image of a new 415,000 square foot mixed-use project. Apparently the project is set to rise in Long Island City as part of the ‘Queens Plaza South’ development. Though the building appears to be quite tall for a project that’s supposedly 15 stories, the retail podium is the site’s most significant component.
Long Island City has a dearth of retail at the moment, so infusing the ongoing residential boom (especially as some formerly commercial projects like 10 Court Square may be re-invented as residential) with a brand-new major retail space could only be good news. For a glass box, the design isn’t boring. The LED-signage along the podium even seems to allude to Times Square, and would certainly add some vibrancy to the neighborhood.
