Crotona Park East
Supportive housing serving homeless victims of domestic violence is coming to Crotona Park East, in the southwestern Bronx.
Four years after the city rezoned a forgotten industrial section of West Farms, the sad stretch of properties next to the Cross Bronx Expressway is becoming a haven for affordable housing. Developer Walison Corp. has filed plans to erect an 11-story supportive housing project at 1817 West Farms Road, right next to their headquarters at 1815 West Farms Road.
Rezonings in the South Bronx have spurred development in Morrisania, Melrose and Mott Haven, but new construction has been slow to arrive in the neighborhoods nearby, like Crotona Park East and Longwood. However, new building applications were filed over the weekend for a seven-story apartment building at 1417 Longfellow Avenue, between Jennings and Freeman Streets in Crotona Park East.
The property owner of the vacant triangular lot at 1698 Boston Road, in Charlotte Gardens, just east of Crotona Park, has filed applications for a single-story, nearly 5,500 square-foot commercial building. Draft Master Engineering is the architect of record.
