SL Green has revealed the first images of Jōji, a hidden Omakase-style restaurant beneath supertall office tower One Vanderbilt in Midtown, Manhattan. The venue’s culinary program will be led by sushi master chef George Ruan and Michelin-starred chef Daniel Boulud.
Figures for new construction permit filings for New York City for the second quarter of 2022 are in, and YIMBY’s latest analysis reveals that a number of positive trends emergent in the year’s first quarter have continued at a sustained pace. During the period spanning April, May, and June, the Department of Buildings registered permit filings for a combined total of around 13.1 million square feet, which, among other uses, includes 9,997 residential and hotel rooms. Although the square footage of the average filing is slightly smaller compared to the first quarter, the 857 new permits filed in the second quarter almost exactly match the total of 862 filings in the previous quarter, with both figures substantially exceeding quarterly averages from the previous year. Designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill and developed by Extell, the 1,550-foot Billionaires’ Row skyscraper yields 179 condominiums designed by Rottet Studio and marketed by Corcoran Sunshine, as well as a 320,000-square-foot, seven-story Nordstrom retail podium bound by West 57th and West 58th Streets and Broadway and Seventh Avenue.
YIMBY attended a topping-out ceremony for 122 Fifth Avenue, a 11-story commercial building expansion in Union Square. Designed by STUDIOS Architecture and developed by Bromley Companies, the 300,000-square-foot project involves the erection of a one-story steel-framed addition above the parapet of the landmarked building, as well as the construction of a reinforced concrete annex that will expand the property’s T-shaped footprint along West 17th Street. Microsoft has signed on as the anchor tenant for the office space, and athleisure company Allbirds will occupy the retail space. Omnibuld is the general contractor for the Midtown, Manhattan property.
YIMBY went on a tour of Flatiron House, a two-tower residential development at 39 West 23rd Street in the Flatiron District. Designed by COOKFOX Architects for NYC-based real estate development firm Anbau Enterprises, the structure will yield 44 condominium units with sales and marketing led by Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group. The taller portion of Flatiron House is called the Tower and features 37 one- to four-bedroom homes with an entrance on West 23rd Street, while the shorter annex is dubbed the Loft and comes with seven one- to five-bedroom residences and its own entrance to the north on 24th Street. Ryder Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues.
