Renderings Revealed for Port Authority Bus Terminal Overhaul in Midtown, Manhattan

Last week, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) revealed a pair of renderings for its proposal to reconstruct Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown, Manhattan. The $10 billion project is being designed by Foster + Partners and will replace the rundown 74-year-old, 2.1-million-square-foot structure that spans two city blocks between Eighth and Ninth Avenues and West 40th and 42nd Streets. The bi-state agency submitted a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) last Thursday to the Federal Transit Administration, which green-lit a 45-day public comment period. Designed by Amie Gross Architects and developed by New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development under the Chelsea HDFC, the 85-foot-tall structure will span 30,859 square feet and yield 26 affordable co-op units in studio to three-bedroom layouts, as well as 1,828 square feet of retail space divided among three tenants. A.A.D. Construction Corp. is the general contractor for the property, which is alternately addressed as 170 West 22nd Street and located at the southeast corner of Seventh Avenue and West 22nd Street.

18 West 55th Street Begins Ascent in Midtown, Manhattan

Construction is rising on 18 West 55th Street, a 26-story residential building in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Morris Adjmi Architects and developed and built by Skyline Developers, which purchased the property for $83 million in 2017 under the 18 West 55th Street LLC, the 289-foot-tall structure will span 152,084 square feet and yield 97 rental units with an average scope of 1,319 square feet, as well as 6,380 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and a 10,343-square-foot cellar level. The project is located on a formerly vacant interior lot situated next to the Peninsula Hotel between Fifth and Sixth Avenues.
