FXCollaborative Celebrates Topping Out of One Willoughby Square, the Tallest New Office Building in Downtown Brooklyn

YIMBY recently attended the topping-out ceremony and ribbon cutting of One Willoughby Square, aka 420 Albee Square, in Downtown Brooklyn. The 34-story, 495-foot-tall reinforced concrete skyscraper is the tallest new office building in Brooklyn and will contain 500,000 square feet of newly built Class A office space. FXCollaborative is the designer and JEMB Realty is the developer of the project. Gilbane Building Company is in charge of the construction.

Klövern and GDS Development Break Ground on 28 & 7 Office Building, at 322-326 Seventh Avenue, in Chelsea

Klövern and GDS Development recently broke ground on a new Manhattan boutique office project in Chelsea, called 28 & 7. Skidmore Owings & Merrill is the designer of the 12-story, class A office structure, which is located at 322-326 Seventh Avenue and is one of three properties that the two developers are working together on in New York City. Klövern is aiming to bring a more Scandinavian-inspired approach to the office market with higher sustainability standards and a more “human-scaled” design approach.

YIMBY recently went on a hard-hat tour of Jeanne Gang’s 620-foot-tall, 57-story skyscraper at 11 Hoyt Street in Downtown Brooklyn. The wavy, rippling precast façade has reached the flat roof parapet, while work on the podium and lower floors is headed toward completion. Tishman Speyer is the developer and Hill West is the architect of record for the Studio Gang-designed residential project. Edmund Hollander of Hollander Design is in charge of landscaping for the outdoor green space above the motor courtyard and podium section.

Central Park Tower Officially Tops Out 1,550 Feet Above Midtown, Becoming World’s Tallest Residential Building

Central Park Tower, aka 217 West 57th Street, has finally reached its long-awaited milestone. Construction workers have reached top of the reinforced concrete structure, while work on the reflective glass curtain wall is closing in on the upper floors of what is now the tallest residential building in New York and the highest roof in the Western Hemisphere. The 1,550-foot tall reinforced concrete skyscraper is designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill and developed by Extell, which is expecting a $4 billion sellout. The Nordstrom retail component is getting ready for its debut next month.

Pendry Hotel’s Wavy Curtain Wall Begins Assemblage at 4 Manhattan West in Midtown

Construction is moving along smoothly on the Pendry Hotel, aka 4 Manhattan West. The reinforced concrete superstructure of the 21-story Midtown West development has risen past the halfway mark, and installation of its distinctive wavy façade has begun on the northern and western elevations. The mixed-use project, which is designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and developed by Brookfield Properties, is slated to offer 164 guest rooms and a selection of condominiums on its upper floors.
