Charney Companies and Tavros recently celebrated the topping out of 585 Union Street, a mixed-use building in Gowanus, Brooklyn. The topping out marks a significant milestone for the nine-story building toward its completion and the broader transformation of the area, which is actively underway with other projects including Charney Companies’ and Tavros’ 251 Douglass Street nearby.

The 230,000-square-foot project, designed by Fogarty Finger Architects, will offer 224 residential rental units with 25 percent designated as affordable housing. The development also includes ground-floor retail space and a parking facility.

585 Union Street is part of the larger Gowanus Wharf campus. When complete, the campus will be steps from bus stops for the B37 line, and an eight-minute walk southwest to the Union Street subway station, serviced by the R train.
