At number three on our year-end countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is 520 Fifth Avenue, a 1,002-foot residential supertall skyscraper in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Rabina, which took over from Ceruzzi Properties and SMI USA in 2019, the 88-story structure will span 415,000 square feet and yield 100 condominium units with interior design by Charles & Co., as well as commercial space on the ground floor and four cellar levels. WSP is the structural engineer, DeSimone Consulting Engineers is the façade consultant, and Suffolk Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue and West 43rd Street, one block north of Bryant Park.

Installation of the tan paneling and arched windows has progressed steadily since our last update in early October, when the first few stories were beginning to be enclosed. Recent photos show the building clad almost to the first setback. Meanwhile, the reinforced concrete superstructure has continued to ascend and is quickly approaching the halfway mark. Progress should speed up as the building rises beyond each successive setback.

Additional exterior work has also unfolded on the base, which features a series of three-story-high arches.

The nearest subways from the development are the B, D, F, M, and 7 trains at the 42nd Street-Bryant Park/Fifth Avenue station. The property is also in close proximity to the Grand Central-42nd Street station, serviced by the 4, 5, 6, 7, and Shuttle trains, as well as Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road trains at Grand Central Terminal and Grand Central Madison.

520 Fifth Avenue’s completion date is posted on the construction board for June 1, 2026.

  1. Love this!

  2. Wow, those facade details are incredible, so nice and clean. Really beauitful and high quality work here. The glass looks so blue and flat, definitely high quality.

  3. The repetitive arches actually looks better than I had imagined it would. Great to see we still have 3 supertalls in the 2023 countdown.

Wish YIMBY would have also included Jersey City skyscrapers. I think 2, maybe more would have made the list and possibly would have increased the height of first building to make the countdown?

  4. Looks like one of the most beautiful buildings in a long time

    Holy arched monotony.

  6. The tenants of the lower floors will provide quite a SHOW with those massive windows facing 5th Avenue, unless they keep the drapes drawn?! 🤔

  7. A whole 98 units! At least those arches look nice.

  8. 1000 feet tall. 76 stories. And, only 98 units?! Only in New York!

  9. It’s no 500 Fifth Avenue…

The best and beautiful facade living here, I’m feeling that these arches nice to meet its unit. SUPERTALL! Thanks to Michael Young.

  11. I like the arches. Any slight difference in the NYC landscape is a boon.

  12. Will that little platform be able to support that yellow construction crane as it gets taller and heavier?..I hope so.

  13. I keep dreaming of a Michael Young coffee table book of his remarkable photographs of NYC’s new buildings. But if I wait until they’re all completed the book will never be published and I will be in the afterlife.

  14. Looks great. Hope they can keep it clean
