Construction is nearing completion on Monogram New York, a 35-story residential skyscraper at 135 East 47th Street in Midtown East. Designed by Ismael Leyva Architects and developed by Navigation Capital Group, the 500-foot-tall structure will yield 191 condominium units designed by Shanghai-based Neri & Hu in studio to four-bedroom penthouse layouts, as well as 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Anthology Group is the hospitality partner and Cauldwell Wingate is the general contractor for the tower, which was formerly addressed as 131-141 East 47th Street and is located between Lexington and Third Avenues.

Recent photographs show the upper floors and Art Deco-inspired crown enclosed since our last update in June. The multifaceted pinnacle is now finished in its dark cladding and reflective gold-hued fins. These decorative elements also adorn the perimeter columns below the midway setback and at the base of the main southern elevation. The sidewalk shed remains standing around the ground floor, but should be dismantled in the coming weeks as work draws to a close.

Residential amenities will include a health and wellness center, a spa, a lounge, a 24-hour doorman, and a library. The nearest subways are the 4, 5, 6, 7, and Shuttle trains at the Grand Central-42nd Street station, which provides access to Grand Central Terminal and Grand Central Madison, serviced by the Metro-North and the Long Island Rail Road.

CORE is handling sales and marketing of the units with asking prices ranging from under $1 million to $5 million for the penthouses.

YIMBY anticipates Monogram New York to be fully completed sometime later this spring.

  1. This tower is beautifully conceived. The floor plans are slightly better than terrible: Master Bedrooms with 3′-0″ closets, kitchen in the Entry Hall. We’re talking over $2m for glorified hotel suites. Perhaps that is the target market

  2. A very nice effort, the construction looks a bit shoddy maybe it just needs a good powerwash at the end but art deco coming back is always good to see

  3. Blue and bronze details are nice.

  4. I like this very much, it has a classy Manhattan look to it. Is it gimmicky? Sure, but that’s consistent with art deco. And that is, BTW, how you can distinguish between art deco and its no-nonsense contemporary, Bauhaus.

Art Deco must include light for elegance, I can’t believe it on units really very beautiful at night: Thanks to Michael Young.

Monogram is a shining example of how historicist influences can be incorporated into 21st Century buildings while still being modern. I understand the economical reasons for it, but not all new resdiential buildings have to be some cookie cutter bare mininmum effort with glass that only have some mininalist detail thrown in as a transparent afterthought to give the building some “distinction.”
