Construction is nearing completion on Sherman Plaza, a 19-story mixed-use building at 4650 Broadway in Inwood, Manhattan. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Arden Group, which acquired the property for $54 million in 2019, the 260-foot-tall structure will span 351,000 square feet and yield 222 rental apartments, 38,000 square feet of lower-level retail space, and an 80,000-square-foot charter school. Aqozfi Inwood LLC is listed as the owner and Consigli Construction Co. is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the intersection of Broadway and Sherman Avenue, directly east of Fort Tyron Park.

Recent photographs show the main tower fully enclosed in its façade of light gray brick and View, Inc.-supplied floor-to-ceiling glass with dark horizontal mullions. A short bulkhead extends above the flat parapet and is enclosed in a matching gray finish.

Crews are now working to enclose the edges of the podium floor plates in gray brick and installing the ribbons of windows. Metal clips are in place to hold the gold-hued decorative fins that the rendering shows extending the height of the podium in an undulating pattern. The ground floor is still obscured by the wraparound scaffolding and will be the last section to finish.

The façade of the building is very striking, by turning the corner outward to a clearly visible at intersection: FASCINATING! Thanks.

  2. Such and interesting base and such a mundane tower.

Oh, the old building facade looked better. These new Inwood high-rises are turning out to be awfully plain.
And private charter schools take our tax dollars away from existing public schools, which is completely back assward.

  4. When can I put in an application?

  5. It looks totally incongruent to have a rectangle tower coming out of a curved base, they should have went with the original design.

  6. Huge high school for charter School in the Square will occupy most of the podium. The rest will be a small supermarket (used to get a 2 floor zoning bonus).
