Figure Skating in Harlem (FSH) is planning to build Upper Manhattan‘s first NHL-sized ice rink, alongside a wellness and education center. Designed with input from Gensler, the proposed facility will feature classrooms, wellness spaces, locker rooms, bleacher seating, and a café. FSH is currently seeking an ideal site and potential partners for the project, which is expected to generate over $70 million in economic impact and create more than 300 jobs.
Founded in 1997, Figure Skating in Harlem has served more than 1,500 girls, helping them excel academically and develop leadership skills. With a 100-percent high school graduation rate among participants, the program has proven its effectiveness. However, due to the limited availability of ice time, FSH is currently at capacity with 200 students. The proposed facility would allow the organization to triple enrollment, expand programming to include boys, and provide a home base for its year-round activities.
Notably, a feasibility study commissioned by FSH confirmed that demand for ice rinks far exceeds availability in New York City, with more than 200,000 New Yorkers participating in ice skating between 2023 and 2024.
“Over the past three decades, we have proven that girls can transform their lives as they embody the resilience, grit, and determination that skating demands,” said Sharon Cohen, CEO of Figure Skating in Harlem. “Our students develop an incredible sense of self-worth, limited only by the ice time available to them. All children deserve access to ‘home ice’ of their own–both those skating with us today and the many more who we could serve without the severe ice constraint we face.”

Where is this to be built in a Harlem?
They didn’t finalize a spot yet.
Seems like a nice program but since a site hasn’t been even been found I’ll assume that the massive funding hasn’t been found either. I’d expect that if this were to come to fruition it’ll be at least 10 years from now but nice that people can dream.
Where in Harlem? Reporters used to report ALL THE FACTS. This story
Is plain sloppy and amateurish.
“FSH is currently seeking an ideal site and potential partners for the project.”
They didn’t confirm a site yet!!! If you took the time to read the article, even just the first paragraph at the very least, you wouldn’t have had to ask so a sloppy and amateurish question, yet here we are.
Seriously, Americans have lost the ability to read and your comment proves it.
Don’t waste your breath Jeff. Some people just have an attitude and aren’t mature enough to read
Shame on you Jeff! It’s clear you didn’t read the article to see they didn’t pick a spot for the ice rink yet. How do you expect to have “ALL THE FACTS” when this is a developing story???
it will be finished in 2026
Well, dreams can be true if we persuedem or at least we dream it what we want
Instead of those who only speak their lack of hope
I would like to name the place “healthy ice rink.” In which players will feel like they are taking a driver’s license test: Thanks.
