Governor Kathy Hochul has announced more than $36 million in awards to 48 infrastructure projects statewide. This includes funding for two initiatives in the New York City area: the Northville Commons affordable housing development in Suffolk County and sewer infrastructure upgrades in Gowanus, Brooklyn. The grants are part of the County Infrastructure Grant Program, which supports local investments that promote economic development and housing growth.

In Suffolk County, the Town of Riverhead will receive $1 million for the Northville Commons project, located at 1018 Northville Turnpike. The funding will support the development of 80 affordable rental units on a 13-acre site. The award will specifically finance the creation of an on-site sewage treatment plant, new sidewalks, and landscaping improvements, enabling the site to meet infrastructure standards for residential development.

In addition, New York City has been awarded $25 million for major sewer upgrades related to the Gowanus Canal cleanup. The investment, part of a $50 million allocation under the state’s Water Infrastructure Improvement program, will fund the construction of underground storage tanks, stormwater management infrastructure, and critical sewer connections. Improvements are intended to reduce combined sewer overflows into the Gowanus Canal, advancing long-term environmental and public health goals in the neighborhood.

  1. Please fix the West Harlem Piers Park docks that have been damaged since the last hurricane. Another boat was severely damaged again just a few weeks ago.
