The Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) is set to review a façade renovation proposal for 159–161 Bleecker Street, a seven-story mixed-use building in Greenwich Village, Manhattan. Assembled by Wolfgang & Hite, the materials seek a Certificate of Appropriateness for a ground-floor façade renovation and restoration of the building’s storefront and historic theater marquee. The property is located between Thompson and Sullivan Streets.
The proposal outlines several changes, including the replacement of its existing commercial storefront, the installation of new windows, and marquee re-cladding. New façade materials will include fluted aluminum panels, halo-lit neon components, as well as reeded and non-reeded glass.
The renovations are based on historical photographs of the building’s storefront from several times throughout the 20th century. Each picture demonstrates evolving but visually consistent storefronts, with the goal of aligning the visual design of the proposed changes to the property’s historical façade design.
The closest subways from 159–161 Bleecker Street are the A, B, C, D, E, F, and M trains at the West 4th Street–Washington Square station.
The LPC will review the proposals on August 12.

Looks like cheapo Fedders outer boro bottom of the rung cut and paste construction
I really do not see anything historic to preserve here.
Walked by this bldg many times and paid no notice.
The upper expansion proves that sometimes it’s best to just start over- but I think the point was to bring in extra income for the theater below.
The Amato Opera company was a significant cultural organization until around 2010.
It would be nice if they could find a way to update the upper levels too.
