Renderings have been revealed for 554–558 Metropolitan Avenue, an 11-story residential building in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by IMC Architecture and developed by Green Street, the 115-foot-tall structure will yield 70 apartments. The project will also include a roughly 32-foot-deep rear yard. The multi-parcel assemblage is located mid-block between Union Avenue and Lorimer Street.

The exterior renderings depict a multifaceted massing with an expansive setback at the ninth story. The façade is largely composed of white cementitious paneling surrounding square floor-to-ceiling windows with protruding metal frames. The central volume and final three stories behind the setback will feature a contrasting dark brown metal envelope. The building will culminate in a flat roof with a terrace and bulkhead.

Green Street purchased the assemblage, which was occupied by a hardware store, for $15.5 million in 2024. The developer also acquired two additional non-contiguous parcels to the west at 536 and 546 Metropolitan Avenue for an additional $6.5 million. These two properties are connected to the main development site at 554–558 Metropolitan Avenue by a rear alleyway, and will eventually be developed in a second phase of construction. All transactions were brokered by TerraCRG.

The entire assemblage has a buildable square footage of 72,864, but this figure can be augmented to just under 100,000 with the use of transferred air rights.

The first Google Street View image below shows the main development site of 554–558 Metropolitan Avenue. Based on the scale of the forthcoming building in the renderings, it appears almost certain that the two-story structure at 564 Metropolitan Avenue, seen below on the left, would be included among the development. However, no record of its sale is publicly listed.

Planned amenities at the new building include an outdoor pickle ball court and a dog run. The nearest subways from the ground-up development are the L train at the Lorimer Street station to the east and the G train at the Metropolitan Avenue station to the west.

A construction timeline for 554–558 Metropolitan Avenue has yet to be announced.

    RIP Crest Hardware.
It’s a decent design but they’re really tearing down the neighborhood. /-:

  2. Onwards & upwards, they call this “vertical integration” in business, in city planning they say; “build UP, not out”, NYC is a living, breathing, dynamic “organism”, I like it👍, not to tall or big, not too small, & it’s a decent # of residences yielded👍☮️🕊️

  3. I did not even know that Crest was no more. I used to get my art supplies from them.
