New Renderings Revealed Of Five-Building Manhattan West Development, Midtown West

Over the past few months, the five-building, seven-million-square-foot mixed-use development dubbed Manhattan West, located on the mega-block bound by Ninth and Tenth avenues and West 31st and 33rd streets, has been quickly taking shape. In April, the project’s 62-story, 844-unit residential tower at 401 West 31st Street, dubbed Three Manhattan West, topped out. And work has been underway for over a year to modernize the 16-story, 1.8-million square-foot building at 450 West 33rd Street, dubbed Five Manhattan West. Now, new renderings have been revealed of the office portion of the project, dubbed One and Two Manhattan West.

62-Story, 844-Unit Residential Building Three Manhattan West Tops Out in Midtown West

In July of 2015, the 62-story, 844-unit residential building under development at 401 West 31st Street, in Midtown West, was a single floor above the street level. Now, the 807,384-square-foot building, dubbed Three Manhattan West, has topped out, Curbed NY reports. The 702-foot-tall structure will host 7,931 square feet of retail on the ground floor, followed by amenities on the second and third floors, and residential units on the fourth through 62nd floor. The rental apartments should average 877 square feet apiece, with 169 of them renting at below-market rates through the housing lottery. Brookfield Properties is the developer with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill behind the design and SLCE Architects serving as the architect of record. Completion is expected in fall 2017, though occupancy is expected earlier.

Request For Proposals Issued For Penn Station Expansion & Renovation

Earlier this month, news broke that Gov. Andrew Cuomo was moving forward with plans to upgrade Pennsylvania Station, between West 31st and 33rd streets on Eighth Avenue in Midtown, and now the state has issued a Request For Proposals (RFR) for the project, dubbed the Empire Station Complex. According to Curbed NY, the document highlights plans to build a main entrance on Eight Avenue, which would entail demolishing the Theater at MSG. In addition, it would connect the station to the proposed new tracks of the Gateway Project, which includes new tunnels under the Hudson River and Amtrak’s expansion into Moynihan Train Hall (the Farley Post Office) and the connecting concourse, along with other upgrades. The renderings were created by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, although the selected team could go ahead with a different firm. Proposals are due by April 22.
