Handel Architects Behind Design of 1,210-Foot Tall 1 Park Lane, aka 36 Central Park South

Yesterday, YIMBY revealed the exteriors for 1 Park Lane, which has an actual address of 36 Central Park South, the site of the current Helmsley Park Lane. While we speculated that Vinoly was behind the renderings, we have now learned that Handel Architects is in fact behind the design, which is unsurprising considering the supertall does resemble a vertically extruded take on the Trump Soho (another Handel project). The 1,210-foot tall building will have 88 condominiums, and completion is expected by 2020.

Permits Filed for Riverside Center Building 1, 400 West 61st Street

Last week, YIMBY revealed tentative renderings for Building 1 at Riverside Center, and now plans have been filed for a third, 37-story tower in the five-building megaproject, at 400 West 61st Street.

New Look at Related’s West Side Yards, at Hudson Yards

The Hudson Yards project has taken decades to get off the ground, but construction is well underway on the site’s first few buildings, with the superstructure for 10 Hudson Yards already making an impact on the skyline. While the Eastern railyards will be impressive in their own right, the Western railyards are a bit further down the development pipeline, but Related has created a new set of conceptual towers that illustrate their potential, posted in an update to the Hudson Yards website.

Revealed: 338 West 39th Street, The Pestana Hotel

Yesterday, The Real Deal reported on an eviction controversy surrounding 338 West 39th Street, which is a site that will soon yield a new hotel. Now, YIMBY can reveal the design of the new building coming to the lot, which is being developed by the Portuguese hotel group Pestana Hotels.

The famed Rizzoli Bookstore at 31 West 57th Street has bitten the dust, to be replaced by a “seven-star” hotel developed by the LeFrak Organization and Vornado Realty. The 109-year-old shop between Fifth and Sixth Avenues shuttered a year ago, despite the efforts of preservationists who tried to get Landmarks protection for the interior.

Last July, YIMBY obtained construction documents for the future Nordstrom Tower at 217 West 57th Street, and we translated the diagrams into renderings. And now, we have obtained official renderings created by the architect, depicting Midtown (and potentially, the Western Hemisphere’s) future tallest tower.
