Back in 2014, we reported on permits for a new 52-story hotel at 138 East 50th Street, between Lexington and Third Avenues in Midtown East. YIMBY can now reveal the latest plans for the site, which have changed significantly, and the entirety of the building above the retail base will be condominiums. The project has also received a significant height boost, and is now slated to stand 64 stories and 803 feet tall, with Pelli Clarke Pelli serving as the design architect.
Late last year, YIMBY revealed renderings of Silverstein Properties’ and Elad Group’s 42-story, 362-unit mixed-use building being developed at 1 West End Avenue, in Lincoln Square, and now the building is four stories above street level, courtesy of Tectonic, per Curbed. The building will feature retail space on the ground floor and a portion of the basement level, followed by 116 below-market rate apartments on the second through seventh floors. Up top, there will be 246 condominiums, with the first renderings surfacing for those back in June.
The Financial District’s rapid transformation from an office to a residential neighborhood has been immensely beneficial to Lower Manhattan, and the area’s recent boom has been mostly free of architectural casualties. But that’s about to change thanks to demolition beginning on the old vestry at 68-74 Trinity Place, which will soon be removed to make way for a new Pelli Clarke Pelli-designed mixed-use building standing almost 500 feet tall.
In December, YIMBY revealed renderings of Silverstein’s and El-Ad Properties’ 41-story, 365-unit mixed-use building planned for 1 West End Avenue, in Lincoln Square, and now Curbed has renderings of the building’s interior, which is being designed by Jeffrey Beers. Foundation work is currently underway at the site, and completion is slated for 2017. The Pelli Clarke Pelli-designed building will feature an affordable residential portion in its eight-story stone-clad base, and retail space is planned on the ground floor.
