Construction is nearing topping out at 550 Washington Street, Google’s 1.3 million-square-foot office in Hudson Square. Designed by COOKFOX Architects and developed by Oxford Properties, the facility will join two other nearby structures at 315 Hudson Street and 345 Hudson Street to form a 1.7 million-square-foot hub dubbed the “Googleplex.” The site is bound by West Street, West Houston Street, Washington Street, and the New York Department of Sanitation offices.
Exterior work is nearing completion on the six-story addition atop 60 Charlton Street, an office building in Hudson Square. Alternately addressed as 163 Varick Street, the project is designed by HOK and co-developed by APF Properties, Kenneth Aschendorf, and Berndt Perl, with Stuart Milstein of Drake Street Properties, and brings the structure’s total height to 12 stories and 191 feet tall.
Urban Design Forum recently announced WIP Collaborative as the winner of a long-running design competition to construct an interactive public art piece in Hudson Square, Manhattan. Titled “Restorative Ground,” the work will take shape on King Street between Hudson and Greenwich Streets.
Demolition is finished and excavation work is now in full swing for Disney’s new 1.2-million-square-foot headquarters at 137 Varick Street, aka Four Hudson Square. Since YIMBY’s last update in late February, the final remaining building at 304 Hudson Street has been cleared from the property, which Disney purchased from Trinity Church Real Estate for $650 million. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and developed in partnership with Silverstein Properties, the upcoming 22-story building will eventually top out at 320 feet tall. Skanska oversaw the demolition process for the Hudson Square complex, which involved the razing of four structures.
Demolition has finished at 561 Greenwich Street in Hudson Square, the site of a 19-story commercial building. Designed by COOKFOX Architects, the 260,000-square-foot project will add 199,353 square feet of office space to the booming neighborhood. Hines is serving as development manager and Trinity Church Wall Street is listed as the owner on permits filed last November.
